So I just watched the movie the Matrix for the first time in a long time. The first time I was a tender 14 yrs old and watched it with my dad. My mom got to scared and went up to go to bed. Shes not really all that keen on Sci Fi movies. But thats ok. Anyway after the movie me and my dad really had a lot to talk about. He's where I get most of my philisophical nature and reason from. If you can call Philosophy, reason. This time I was sitting on a couch in the living room of my duplex with my boyfriend and immediatly I started thinking. "Is the TV the movie on real? Is the couch Im laying on real? What about the carpet on the floor. Sort of looks iffy to me. Like it could all disappear in the flash of an eye." And maybe it could. What is real? After all just like they said in the movie our minds are merely made up of substance that has an electronic pulse running through it that is fueled by our hearts pumping and by us stocking that engine with more fuel. my mind went to the beginning of the movie to the end of it when they have to use the electronic pulse thing to kill off the setinals. or magnetic pulse... Whatever. You Matrix fanatics can harp on me later. Anyway, if our minds are technically squishy machines, then why didn't the rest of the crew die at the end of the movie just like the machines. I mean, they use electricity to send a shock through our hearts which actually STOPS the heart to make it START pulsing regularly again. Why is that? Why doesnt it just stop it completely?
Laying on my couch, next to my boyfriend, wondering if the iffy carpet was gonna disappear at any given moment, I also came to another conclusion. Does it matter at all if any of it was real? If so Why. If not, well I like the "reality" that I have been living in. Sure I would change a few things if I could wrap my mind better around some of the other philosophies in the movie. But for now I will content myself with the fact that in a dream I had, I could fly, change into a wolf, or make a bar of soap levitate. Weird I know, but true. I'm positive that if I could reach a level of "awareness" that I could fly when Im awake. Or make that bar of soap levitate. Its all a matter of what I WANT to have happen. I also currently wish that there was something I could hook up to my mind so I could get all of these thoughts out a lot quicker...
Specially since we are currently sitting at the human determined time of 1:38 AM and I have to get up at 8:20 AM.
Thats another thing. Time, its not really there. We just assigned time. humans I mean. But I will go into all of that garble later.
The other main point that the movie got me thinking on was religion. Of course, it would sort of do that. Specially with the whole, "OOOOOOOOH NEO'S THE ONE!" Well why not Trinity. Simply put, her mind wasnt ready for it. Just like some people arent ready to hear that all the gods out there, are the same thing. They are all just interconnected into the same damn thing. Its all one big thing that people believe in to either make their lives better, help them "win the soccer game" (no offense Pat, just an excuse), or help them get through things. But what about those people that have never heard of god. What do they turn to. Isn't it just their own WILL that gets them through it? Don't they just have to believe in themselves? Just something to think about.
That and the fact that no matter how you worship, or what you worship, its really all the practice that means anything to anyone. Same thing with tombstones and funerals. The person whos dead couldnt give less then a fuck. They're dead. All of that stuff is just for the living to deal with. Ok before i ramble my fingers and mind off Im just gonna post this. You guys can debate and post on it to your hearts content. night! Im gonna go dream about alternate "realities" and wonder if Im really actually asleep now and awake then.

yes, those are interesting thoughts. I've been thinking about those things too. although I doubt that there is just one 'truth'.. atleast, we can never prove one truth to be true =p

About your first question, an electrical shock may stop a heart if the reflex for heartbeat is interrupted. But when the shock is over in most cases our nerves can start working again. They are only "reseted" and don't work proper during the shock. And our nerves don't consist of metal but the machines do. An electromagnetic pulse, as used in the movie, induces an eletric current in metal. This current can be so high that sensitive parts like semiconductors are damaged (the current hasn't to be very high for this). But our cells are not affected by this effect.
And about the one, you are right. Trinity and every other people could be the ONE but their minds aren't ready for it. In the second movie - Matrix Reloaded - in the end Neo discovers that the whole prophecy about the chosen is only a security mechanism for those, who have the ability to change the matrix and want to free the mankind. If any other person had chosen this path before Neo did, this one would be the chosen (not only Neo has the ability to change the matrix).
I agree with you, only what we do defines who we are. And you can prove it, the three major religions (Christianity, Jewishness and Islam) have the same origin. The other religions are similar, too.
